EEFIG organises annual plenary meetings that are open to all members and interested parties. The Plenary took place on 4-5 May 2022 in a virtual format.
Over two hundred members of EEFIG came together online to review progress and provide direction for the group’s activities. Given the urgent need to improve energy security and respond to high energy prices, the results provided by EEFIG members have never been more pivotal to support the acceleration needed for energy efficiency investments.
Day 1 of the Plenary, on 4 May 09:00-12:30 CET, was an open access high level event with distinguished keynote speakers on the role of EEFIG and financial institutions in the context of the Fit for 55 package and in delivering the EU climate ambitions. Key EEFIG results from 2021 were presented and discussed in panel debates on e.g., applying the energy efficiency first principle in sustainable finance, stimulating demand for energy efficiency investments and monitoring data on energy efficiency investments & financing.
Day 2 was exclusively for members. Nearly 100 members participated to join fruitful discussions on how to leverage the momentum of EEFIG. The individual sessions on the EEFIG working groups highlighted findings around EE in Industry and SME’s, blending national and private investments, multiple benefits, EE1st Principle, stimulating consumer demand and monitoring data as well as they discussed the future of EEFIG.
Each year the EEFIG Plenary assembles experts and industry representatives, and public and private financial institutions for an open dialogue. Established in 2013 by DG Energy and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), EEFIG is an open dialogue and work platform. The group has engaged more than 400 active members from more than 100 organisations throughout the EU.
